On Thursday 16th April, TY students from St Aloysius’ College along with a number of local schools will attend an Emergency Services Road Traffic Collision Demonstration morning at Midleton Fire Station.
This hard hitting and necessary demonstration will help in delivering the message that our young people should “Not Be Afraid To Say No” when faced with the choice of getting into a vehicle with someone who drives dangerously or is under the influence of alcohol/drugs. It is an empowering message and one that does save lives.
A one hour talk delivered by Gardaí, Ambulance & Fire Service will be followed by a Real Life Road Traffic Collision Scenario. This means that students will witness the aftermath of a crash, the cutting up of a car, the removal of both a live and a deceased casualty and Undertaker arrival to the scene. A question and answer session will follow and students will be allowed to mingle and take photographs.
Emergency Services state that this scenario is powerful and will have a strong impact on witnesses. They have asked us to advise parents/guardians that if students have experienced in any way the trauma of a road traffic collision and the devastation that follows and would rather not attend please do let us know in advance. We certainly would not want to add to their trauma but would need to make alternative supervision arrangements.
